Ratings, Rescues, & Rockets
LFG Ventures presents a weekly newsletter delivering private market (pre-IPO) insights and signals across tech and frontier industries.

We first invested in SpaceX in 2021. Six SpaceX and two xAI investments later, today is the day. SpaceX goes public in the largest IPO in history, with investment-grade ratings in hand and an orbital data center in the mix. OpenAI quietly filed its S-1 and is reportedly weighing price cuts. Anthropic shipped its most capable model ever, and Dario went long on policy. Saronic's drone boat just made military history in the Gulf of Oman.
Let's get into it.

π SpaceX: SPCX Goes Live. History Goes Public.
The day is here. SpaceX begins trading today on the Nasdaq under SPCX: $135 a share, a $75 billion raise, a $1.75 trillion valuation, the largest IPO in history. It heads to market with investment-grade ratings from Moody's, S&P, and Fitch, per Bloomberg's sourcing, and a clear picture of what comes next: AI1, its first orbital data center satellite, spans 230 feet, sustains 120 kilowatts of compute, and runs Starlink V3 hardware with Nvidia chips inside. Orbital demos are targeted for late 2027. On the ground, Google signed up for $920 million per month through mid-2029, stacking on Anthropic's $1.25 billion monthly Colossus deal. We've been pounding the table on SpaceX since 2020. Today, the whole market gets its turn. Investing | Quartz | TechCrunch
π Saronic: Drone Boat Makes Military History
A US Army Apache went down in the Gulf of Oman Monday night. The first asset to reach the crew was not a ship or a helicopter. It was a 24-foot Saronic Corsair operated by 5th Fleet's Task Force 59: the first known personnel rescue by an unmanned surface vessel. Both soldiers were recovered within roughly two hours, ferried to a pickup point, and hoisted out safely. Corsairs have been fielded in theater since March under a $392 million Navy production deal, and Saronic's new 180-foot Marauder is already queued for the Navy's MUSV evaluation. Valuation: $9.25 billion. The best sales demo is the one you didn't schedule. TWZ
π€ OpenAI: Quiet Filing, Loud Price War Coming
OpenAI confidentially filed its S-1 on Monday, one week after Anthropic did the same. No timing decided, by its own admission, but the option is now live. The backdrop: Anthropic's Series H closed at $965 billion, edging past OpenAI's $852 billion March mark, and whoever lists first gets first crack at a finite pool of AI capital. Meanwhile, the WSJ reports OpenAI is weighing significant token price cuts in anticipation of similar moves from Anthropic. ChatGPT just became the first app to hit 1 billion monthly users. Scale is no longer the question. Margins are. TechCrunch | CNBC
π§ Anthropic: Fable 5 Ships, Mythos Stays Gated
Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5, a Mythos-class model tuned safe for general use and state of the art across nearly every benchmark. Stripe says it compressed months of engineering into days, including a 50-million-line codebase migration finished in one. Mythos 5, the same model with safeguards lifted, goes only to vetted cyberdefenders through Project Glasswing in collaboration with the US government. Pricing landed at $10 per million input tokens and $50 output, less than half of Mythos Preview. Dario also published "Policy on the AI Exponential," pairing the essay with a legislative proposal on frontier model testing and a job displacement framework Anthropic will financially back. π Databricks: An Open Protocol for the Agent Era
Databricks announced OpenSharing, the Linux Foundation-hosted successor to Delta Sharing and the first open, vendor-neutral protocol for sharing AI assets: agent skills, models, and unstructured data, across any platform. It adds Apache Iceberg support and on-prem storage partners, with OpenAI, Amadeus, Atlassian, and LSEG already publicly on board. Delta Sharing became the default for cross-platform data sharing; this is the same play for the agent stack. Open protocols have a habit of quietly becoming infrastructure. And infrastructure is where the moats are. Databricks
π― Allen Control Systems: $200M to Hunt Drones
Allen Control Systems raised a $200 million Series B at a $2.2 billion valuation, led by Smash Capital. Its Bullfrog autonomous weapon station uses AI, computer vision, and precision robotics to knock drones out of the sky, pairs with the M240 machine gun, and is already deployed with the US Army and Navy. At the Pentagon's TREX 2026 counter-drone test, it reportedly went 100 for 100. The money goes to manufacturing capacity and new products. Given this week's headlines, counter-drone is not a niche anymore. It's a line item. The Defense Post

π Content
π Straight From the Source
SpaceX posted Elon's full 31-minute technical update on orbital AI data centers, and this upload adds subtitles and timestamps so you can jump straight to the good parts: the AI satellite design, the Bastrop factory, the million-satellite constellation, and yes, a Moon mass driver. This is the plan behind every orbital compute headline this month. Worth your lunch break.
π¨βπ Moonwalking in Prada
Prada and Axiom Space unveiled the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment, the layer Artemis astronauts will wear inside the AxEMU suit on the Moon. Engineered knit, cold water tubing mapped over muscle groups, built for eight-hour moonwalks, finished with the signature red stripe. When the space economy starts pulling in Milan's fashion houses, that tells you how big the supply chain is getting. Wild times ahead.
π¨ Design Without Leaving the Chat
Canva's Magic Layers now turns ChatGPT-generated images into fully editable designs without leaving the conversation. Pay attention to the pattern: software is moving inside the chat box, and the winners will be the apps that meet users there. The interface is becoming the distribution.
