Prospectus, Ports, & Payloads

Anthropic's leaked filing, Saronic's shipyard, Starship in orbit, and Kalshi's $40B talks.

Anthropic's leaked prospectus shows $518B in compute commitments. OpenAI shipped near-Astra smarts at a fifth of the price and is reportedly raising at $1.4T. SpaceXAI finally made orbit. Saronic broke ground on its shipyard and booked a fleet of autonomous ships the same day. Kalshi lost in the Sixth Circuit and is reportedly raising at $40B anyway. Lambda is paying its own power bill. Gecko Robotics got NVIDIA's safety stamp. Varda raised $251M to make drugs in orbit. Valar Atomics wants to put 456 reactors in the Utah desert.

Let's get into it.

🧠 Anthropic: The Books, the Bills, & the Bench

A leaked confidential draft of Anthropic's prospectus shows revenue up twelvefold to nearly $4.6B, an operating loss of more than $8B, and $518B committed to cloud, compute, and infrastructure, 80% of it non-cancelable. The offering could raise as much as $100B, with backers eyeing $2T or more, and the debut is likely pushed past the November midterms. Product kept shipping: Sonnet 5.5 runs 30%+ faster and costs up to 30% less for most work at the same $2/$10 pricing, two points behind Opus 5.5 on GDPval-AA. Washington stayed complicated. The DC Circuit upheld the Pentagon's supply chain risk label 2-1, then Trump hosted Dario for a one-on-one dinner two days later. The revenue is huge. So are the bills.

🤖 OpenAI: A Fifth of the Price, $1.4T in Talks

DevDay delivered GPT-6.1 Sol, near-Astra intelligence at one-fifth the price, $2/$10 against Astra's $10/$50. It also launched dots, always-on agents with their own cloud computers that connect to 4,000+ apps, plus Sign in with ChatGPT. Altman put weekly users at 1.2B. On the money side, OpenAI is reportedly in talks to raise at least $30B at roughly $1.4T, up from $852B in March. CNBC's source says no term sheet yet. The agents still need supervision: OpenAI disclosed 53 cases of user images posted to image-hosting sites, and Australia's Senate inquiry asked Altman and Amodei to appear. Cheaper tokens. Pricier shares.

🚀 SpaceXAI: Orbit Achieved, Colossus Doubling

Starship Flight 14 lifted off from Starbase September 28 and reached orbit for the first time, deploying 26 upgraded V3 Starlink satellites. A Raptor engine shut down early, and the mission ended at T+3 hours, 9 minutes with a splashdown north of Hawaii instead of the planned zone west of Chile. On compute, Musk says Colossus 2 runs 110k GB200 and 440k GB300 today, with more than 1.2 million chips possible by year end if they get lucky. Grok Team Bots hit public beta.

⚓ Saronic: Shovels In, Ships Ordered

Saronic broke ground on Port Alpha in Brownsville September 30 with VP Vance and Governor Abbott on hand: more than $3B in private capital, 835 acres, 150,000 gross tons of initial annual capacity scaling past 2 million, and up to 10,000 direct jobs. The same day the Navy gave it a production award for the 180-ft Marauder under the MUSV Marketplace. Citing the Navy's program office, Naval News describes 30 vessels split across Saronic, HII, and Galliano, with 10 MUSVs at an average $40M per vessel and first deliveries before the end of FY2027. Saronic did not disclose its contract value. Last week, landing craft. This week, autonomous warships.

🎯 Kalshi: Losing in Court, Winning on Price

The Sixth Circuit ruled September 25 that Kalshi has not shown its sports contracts are swaps, and that even if they were, federal law would not preempt Ohio or Tennessee gambling law. That leaves Kalshi 1-for-3 in circuit decisions. Days later it filed with the CFTC to end its Volume Incentive Program no earlier than October 13, after reports that repeated trades inflated ether perps volume. Kalshi says it is not under investigation, and the CFTC did not order the change. Meanwhile Reuters reports advanced talks to raise about $1B at roughly $40B, up from $22B in May.

🏗️ Lambda: Oklahoma, Power Bill Included

Lambda is building a new AI data center at MidAmerica Industrial Park in Mayes County, Oklahoma, with up to 1,000 construction jobs, up to 100 permanent roles, and an estimated $500M in taxes over the next 10 years. The detail that matters: Lambda is paying 100% of its energy costs and using closed-loop cooling. Covering your own power is fast becoming the price of a permit.

🦎 Gecko Robotics: NVIDIA's Safety Stamp

NVIDIA launched its Open Agent Safety Platform and named Gecko alongside Figure and Skild AI as robotics leaders building with OpenShell to embed safety controls into autonomous systems that act in the physical world. Gecko says its Komodo robot, deployed with the US Navy, uses OpenShell as an independent enforcement layer. When your robots crawl warships, guardrails a third party can audit are a sales tool.

💊 Varda Space: $251M to Make Drugs in Orbit

Varda closed a $251M Series D at a $1.6B valuation, co-led by Lux Capital and Natural Capital, with Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and General Catalyst also in. Total raised now sits at $598M. It has flown six re-entry missions since 2023, with all but the fourth coming home successfully, and W-8 and W-9 are planned to launch together on SpaceX's Transporter-18 on October 1, its first two-capsule flight. The capital is in. Now pharma has to keep paying for orbit.

⚛️ Valar Atomics: 456 Reactors in the Desert

Valar applied to the Bureau of Land Management for Project Beehive: some 456 small reactors producing around 9.6 GW for data centers on more than 9,000 acres of federal land near Price, Utah. It also wants about 650 acres of state land. Non-nuclear construction could start as soon as the end of this year, with first reactors sometime in 2028 and the full site by 2032. BLM confirmed it is reviewing the application. The physics is the easy part. Permits and neighbors are the hard part.

👀 Watch List

☀️ Helion: Orion's Clock Slips

Helion's website now says Orion will "begin initial operations in 2028", dropping the earlier promise of electricity that year. Helion's Jackie Siebens was blunt: "We will not, in no universe, have 50 megawatts hit full operation in 2028," with full power not before 2029 or 2030. The Microsoft contract requires Orion to be connected to the grid and operating by the end of 2028. Both companies declined to comment. In fusion, the timeline is the product.

🔥 Hasta la Vista, F.02

Figure needed to retire its F.02 fleet, put it to a vote on X, and Arnold replied "You should melt them." So it did: robots trained in simulation doing autonomous flips into a 75-ton electric arc furnace at a foundry in Finland, after US and Mexican foundries refused robots with lithium-ion batteries. The recovered metal becomes commemorative pieces. Best robotics marketing of the year, and it isn't close.

📋 Kill Your 1:1s

Joe Hudson coaches Sam Altman and leaders at Anthropic, Google, Apple, and SpaceX. On Codie Sanchez's BigDeal pod, he laid out his seven operating rules. The first one is to kill your 1:1s. The most useful one is to end every email with a name, an action, and a deadline, which he says raised productivity in his business by 35 to 40%. Steal at least one.
