Leases, Laptops, & Leagues
Anthropic's S-1, SpaceX's $40B GPU lease, Anduril's laptop, and Kalshi's big week.

Anthropic made its S-1 public. OpenAI cut the price of a frontier-grade agent model in half. SpaceXAI lined up $40B of GPUs on a lease. Kalshi got the NBA and the CFTC in its corner. Anduril is building an American laptop. Paradromics can now recruit coast to coast.
Let's get into it.
📈 Portfolio Pulse
🦾 Anthropic: The S-1 Is Public
Anthropic filed its S-1 to list on Nasdaq as ANT, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading 22 banks. First-half 2026 revenue hit $16.3B, up from $1.16B a year earlier (confirmed here). Q2 alone was $11.6B, and it brought the company's first operating profit: $974M. More than 11,900 customers now pay $100K+ a year. The $80.7B half-year net loss is mostly a non-cash charge on convertible notes. Same week, security startup Cathedral said its AI agents got into Anthropic's sales, HR, and IT systems in under 12 hours through third-party software. Anthropic says customer conversations, source code, and model weights were not accessed. The numbers are real. So is the scrutiny.
🧠 OpenAI: Half the Price, Twice the Code
OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Terra, a fast model built for computer use, visual reasoning, and everyday work. API pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output, 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. OpenAI says it matches GPT-6 Astra on computer use at one-tenth the price per token and finishes tasks over three times faster. Its Terminal-Bench 4.0 score more than doubled, from 21.5% to 50.3%. It is live in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API. Agents just got a lot cheaper to run.
🚀 SpaceXAI: $40B of GPUs on Lease
SpaceX locked in a binding commitment for roughly $40B to finance AI chips and data center gear. An Apollo-managed entity buys the hardware, including Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips, and leases it to SpaceX for about five years, with leases starting in the first half of 2027. Apollo calls it the largest GPU financing ever. CFO Bret Johnsen says SpaceX is seeing less than one-year paybacks on AI infrastructure. For context, the AI segment brought in $7.6B of SpaceX's $14.6B in Q3 revenue. Musk's read on the 200+ neoclouds: "guppy-level death and consolidation." Balance sheets win the compute war.
🎯 Kalshi: The NBA and the Feds Pick a Side
The NBA named Kalshi and Polymarket its Preferred Prediction Market Exchanges, with IP and marketing rights, official Sportradar data, and an MOU with the CFTC on integrity. The CFTC then sued Utah to stop the state from enforcing its gambling laws against federally regulated exchanges, six days after Utah sued Kalshi. Utah is the 10th state the agency has taken to court. Kalshi also teamed up with S&P Dow Jones Indices on contracts that settle on official S&P index values. A league, a regulator, and an index giant in one week. The states are still fighting.
🛡️ Anduril: The All-American Laptop
Anduril and Qualcomm unveiled BlueChip, a hardened laptop for the military, government, law enforcement, and first responders, with preorders opening in 2027. It runs a Snapdragon X chip built at TSMC's Arizona fab. Luckey says the bill of materials is about 90% U.S. and allied today, with a roadmap to 100% domestic. Some parts, like the display, are still only made in China. Expect roughly a 20% premium over high-end PCs. Rugged computers are already a $5B market. Palmer wants the whole stack.
🧩 Paradromics: Recruiting Coast to Coast
The FDA cleared Paradromics to recruit nationwide for its Connect-One study of the Connexus brain-computer interface, dropping the four-hour travel limit that kept the candidate pool local. Other eligibility rules stay the same, and study sites remain UC Davis Health, Mass General Brigham, and University of Michigan Health. More candidates means faster enrollment. Faster enrollment means faster data. In BCI, data is the race.
👀 Watch List
📊 Polymarket: NBA In, Michigan Out
Polymarket shares the NBA's Preferred Prediction Market Exchange designation with Kalshi, including league IP and official data. The same week, it stopped Michigan customers from opening new sports positions, joining Kalshi, Robinhood, and Coinbase on the state's restricted list. Its legal challenge is still alive, though a federal judge denied its injunction bid in June. National partners, local headaches.

🔐 Two Hours to Better Opsec
If AI agents can get into Anthropic’s back office in under 12 hours, your home network is not a hard target. Alain Meier’s weekend checklist covers hardware keys, router hygiene, putting smart-home devices on a guest network, deleting old cloud accounts, and freezing your credit. His best tip is to hand the whole list to your own agent and let it do the work.
🎙️ Covering the Elon Empire
Steven Robinson writes @elonchron, a daily no-spin log of SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, xAI and the rest. He sits down with Brad Smith to explain why SpaceX is the hardest company to cover and why, at Neuralink, “patients are not props.”
📖 The Man Who Sees the Future
Neal Stephenson wrote Snow Crash, The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon, and even he didn’t see the AI boom coming. He tells Ashlee Vance his new novel about the years before the atomic bomb is a mirror of today’s AI race with China: nobody slows down if the other side might get there first. He also covers the early days of Blue Origin with Bezos, what brain-computer interfaces might leave behind, and why building a real Diamond Age primer for every kid is much harder than building one for a gifted few.
